DHS Skills USA Team recently attended the National Leadership and Skills Competition June 20th in Louisville, Kentucky. Newly elected state officers Karina Saldivar, Shawn Roberts and Julian Zepeda participated in several national workshops, lectures and training seminars to help them prepare for the 2016-2017 school year. LEVERAGE training prepares state officers for a year dedicated to leading our association and increasing membership engagement. The program also provides state officers with high energy training that focuses on individual leadership skill development, building teams and communicating effectively. Intense and rewarding, this event covered individual, group and interactive leadership training. The trio had very little time for summer vacation when they traveled to Portales for State Officer training July 13-15. The event was held on the campus of Eastern New Mexico University for Career Technical Student Organizations and focused on developing lateral thinking skills, building professional leaders and successful planners, group communication and creating great speakers. Members from around the state represented SkillsUSA, BPA, DECA, FCCLA, HOSA and TSA. The DHS Team will now prepare for ninth grade and new student orientation on July 27th at the Main Campus Gym where they will participate in the Club Expo to generate interest for future members to the DHS Skills USA family.
