ACCESS Testing

access for ELLs 2.0

January 14 - March 8, 2019

Why do students have to take the ACCESS test?

QUICK FACTS ABOUT THE ACCESS TEST:

• The ACCESS test is an English Assessment (not Spanish) and there is no opt-out option.

• It is a Federal requirement that we administer this assessment to all students identified as an English Language Learner (ELL).

• A student is identified as an ELL based on the Home Language Survey (Language Usage Survey) that is completed when they enroll in school and the W-APT that is administered within 20 days of enrollment.

• The only way to exit from being an ELL is to score a 5 or higher on the ACCESS test. Until that time, they will be tested annually.

Preparing for the ACCESS Test

The following resources are available to help students become familiar with the ACCESS testing online application, Insight.

NAEP tESTING FOR SENIORS

January 30, 2019

NAEP is also referred to as The Nation's Report Card. It is a test that is administered to high school seniors randomly selected from across the country.

Seniors who have been selected from Deming High School will be notified during the week of January 14, 2019. They will be provided with a letter to take home to their parents.

These students will be representing our state and our high school! They will be encouraged to do their very best!

The Nation's Repord Card opens the door for parents to understand how well children like theirs are doing compared to other students in:

  • Participating large urban districts
  • Other states
  • The nation
  • The rest of the world!

- For more information, go to the Parent's Page on The Nation's Report Card (NAEP).
